Most Common Breast Augmentation FAQ

Despite differences in age and race, women that have undergone breasts augmentation share the same set of concerns and queries otherwise known as a breast augmentation FAQ or frequently asked question. Following are the most common FAQs involving the surgical procedure.

1. What should I expect after the surgery?
Because the tissues in your breast area have been damaged, it is normal to see some swelling and bruising post-operatively. The swelling could migrate downward into your abdomen and your groin, and won’t disappear until a few days or weeks after augmentation of the breasts. As for the bruises, they will also have the same downward pattern in migration but will disappear faster than the swelling.

2. I want silicone implants for my first breast augmentation. Could I have them?
Saline implants are more commonly used these days because they are safer and they don’t have risks associated with silicone implants in case they leak. However, you need to meet certain requirements before you become a candidate for silicone implants. Some studies completely disallow silicone implants with first-time patients though.

3. What are the breast augmentation facts involving the length of incision to be made during the procedure?
Women who are getting an inflatable saline implant will only have a one inch or less in incision. Pre-filled implants like silicone however, will need incisions that could go beyond one inch. The more skilled a plastic surgeon is, the lesser the size of the incision he needs to make.

4. I have already had surgery. How do I know if something’s wrong with my incision?
Check your incision frequently. If after one week it didn’t make much progress, if it is red or warm and painful to touch, or has pus oozing from it, then there is something wrong. You might have an infection so it is necessary that you contact your surgeon immediately.

5. What are the normal sensations that I will get after surgery?
This question is commonly discussed among different breast augmentation FAQs. Among the normal sensations expected after surgery are the itching of the incision and your breasts. The itching of the incision is due to skin healing which could be assisted by applying a warm compress over it. Breasts itch due to skin stretching and could be relieved by applying lotion on them.

Going over breast augmentation FAQ will help you fight off feelings of anxiety prior to and after the procedure. As a prospect patient of the popular surgery, you have every right to understand everything about it.
