How Plastic Surgeons Avoid Leaving Breast Augmentation Scars

Author Timothy Carpenter    Category Cosmetic Surgery

No one wants to have scars left behind by any surgical procedure. Scars make the skin look uneven and leave lasting marks that remind you what you have been sliced and stitched. In the context of cosmetic surgery, scars are most unwanted as they completely defy the purpose of the surgery in making the skin look perfect. Women that undergo breast implantation or are still about to go through it are particularly scared of scarring consequences in a sensitive and characteristically feminine body area. It would probably be a relief to them that plastic surgeons do take measures to avoid leaving obvious breast augmentations scars.

Cosmetic surgeons or any surgeon, for that matter, say that scarring of the skin is an unavoidable circumstance. Some people are actually more predisposed than others to develop scar tissues as a result of hereditary factors and the uncontrollable nature of skin healing. On a realistic note, surgeons – especially those that perform cosmetic surgery – only try to limit and hide their incisions strategically so that if scarring occurs, they are not easily visible due to their hidden location and minimal coverage. With breast augmentation procedures, cosmetic surgeons apply the same concept to elude breast augmentation scarring.

In breast augmentation, there are five incision points from where a breast implant can be inserted. There are those that are made around the nipples, those that are made under the creases of each breast, and those that are done in the armpits. Two of the five areas for incision are less common and made either on the belly button or in any area of the abdomen. According to plastic surgeons, an incision that is close to an implant pocket – where a breast implant is placed – has the least possibility of resulting in a breast augmentation scar. Thus, incisions that are made on the nipples, breast creases, and armpits are less likely to cause scars.

Other factors that plastic surgeons consider include the quality of the implant pockets and the length of the incision. Well sculpted implant pockets and small incisions are most likely to result in discrete scarring. Breast augmentation scar pictures will also prove that saline implant patients have less evident scars than those that had silicone implants. This is because saline implants only require 1-inch incisions, whereas silicone implants need 3-inch incisions.

Your best bet in avoiding breast augmentation scars would have to depend on your choice of a competent plastic surgeon. Surgeons that are skilled and conscious of the impact of scarring on a person’s psyche will do whatever they can to limit scars and make them less visible.
